How to iterate an existing theme using v4.8’s developer theme preview. From Bloke at the TextPattern forum:

1. Duplicate the current theme.
2. Use Change theme/page/style to assign some or all sections to the new theme for development. This opens up the dev lane for those sections.
3. Make changes to the development version of pages, forms, and stylesheets.
4. Test, test, test! (Note, you must be signed in to see the development theme on the site.)
5. On the Sections panel, select the sections with the dev lanes and use multi-edit → Deploy to Live. The dev theme is now Live for all visitors.
6. On the Themes panel, use the multi-edit tool to Export the old theme to disk if you want a backup. Then delete it, assuming none of its assets are used elsewhere.
7. To iterate on a new version of the theme, go back to step 1.
